Living Willow
We undertake commissions to plant living willow structures.
Willow in schools
Willow is a fantastic material for children to use. Not only is it a great play resource, it can also be used as a springboard for cross curricular activities including maths, science, art, geography and ecology.
We like to involve the children and school community in planning and planting the willow structure. We are very happy to talk at school assemblies or to individual classes about what we do. We encourage the children to become ‘caretakers‘ of their structures.
How does willow work?
Willow is versatile and fast growing. Full length rods are stuck in the ground and then tied and woven together. These rods will then shoot and root to produce a growing living willow structure. The season to plant willow is between November and March while the plant is dormant.
